My name is Kevin Slangar, born 1998 and raised in Karperö, Finland, now living in Jakobstad-Pietarsaari. I’m a guitarist, bassist and up and coming arranger with guitar as my main instrument. I strive for playing many genres. Luckily, during my music studies, I have been able to play a variety of different styles, such as Blues, Pop, Jazz, Metal, Orchestral, Rock, Latin, Reggae, Country, Soul and more. When it comes to my own music, and bands I play in, it leans towards prog/rock/metal/jazz/fusion combinations.
I play in the fusion experiment band PLATAPIES, in alt progressive rock/metal group SIGNS OF ECHO and started CULTURE CRASH, a tribute band for The Aristocrats, as a result of my deep admiration of the group. I play in various temporary band projects as well.
I love the world of harmonies and arrangement! A resent collaboration is transcription and co-arrangement for the vocal group SASABEL (Vaasa, FI) for the upcoming single "I Can’t Let You Go", which is produced and mixed by Christian Knollmüller at Crosslight in Germany. In this particular song, I also sing the tenor part.
At a very early age I started with kantele lessons and later on moved to the rhythm section. During middle school, drums were my main source of music expression although it didn’t really become a passion and my interest started to dwindle. I moved on to the bass but It wasn’t until I turned 16, I started taking music seriously due to my first guitar teacher, the guitar virtuoso Henri Aalto Since then, I’ve been bitten by the bug and have studied at Kuula Institute in Vasa, got my musician papers from YA! Vocational College in Jakobstad, and now studying at Novia UAS at Campus Allegro for a bachelor’s degree as musician as well as music teacher.
My deep admiration for The Aristocrats, my favourite band, led me to start CULTURE CRASH, a tribute band for The Aristocrats. Their eccentric and comedy filled fusion music combined with virtuosic sophisticated playing drew me in, the moment I heard them.
SIGNS OF ECHO is an alternative progressive rock/metal group where we are almost ready to release our first album, which is a concept album called ‘Apostasy’. The music incorporates elements of psychedelic rock, Djent, Groove, Black metal and symphonic elements with dual guitar works. I play lead guitar and do backing vocals in Signs of Echo.
PLATAPIES is a fusion experiment that incorporates elements of funky groves, jazz harmony, rock attitude, RnB elements, and lots of improvisation, which allows us to express ourselves differently in each concert. I’m the guitarist in the band and we are working on our own material leading to our first EP. .
